What She Eats

What She Currently Eats:

Ellie is now on stage 4-5-6ish of GAPS. This includes nut butters, pancakes, squash, goat ghee, scrambled eggs, fresh juices, and others.  At this point in our journey she has too many foods to maintain an accurate list.  Amazing, eh?
  • Meat. And lots of it! About 3 pounds every 2 days. Sometimes more, sometimes less. All meats must be grass fed, organic, soy and corn free.  She has enjoyed: bear, elk, venison, buffalo, duck, lamb, beef, wild salmon, wild boar, wild snapper, wild turkey, beef liver. She had one bad experience with grain fed elk, and then one good experience, and has now decided she just doesn't like it. She has also had some mixed experiences with pork, which we believe to be due to being grain fed and some integrity issues with the farmer.  We did feed her one home grown corn and soy free hog which she did great with. Those are hard to come by.
  • Chicken - Much like the pork, she has had corn/soy free but grain fed chicken broth.  She did not do fantastic on this.  Recently she had grain free chicken broth and meat, and absolutely loved it without even a hiccup.
  • bone broth from any safe animal listed above
  • zucchini (skinned and boiled), light green pattypan squash, round zucchini-like summer squash, and any other variation of green, gray or light grey summer squash I can find
  • GutPro Probiotic, full child's dose
  • fermented cabbage juice - every time she eats, 5-6 teaspoons minimum per day
  • fermented *red* cabbage juice - 1 teaspoon per day
  • expeller pressed coconut oil - 1/2 teaspoon per day
  • organic mint tea
  • ginger tea
  • sometimes homemade marshmallows a treat (like camping)
  • a little honey in tea between meals
  • boiled cabbage
  • fermented coconut water - as much as she wants
  • raw, pastured, grain free egg yolk - 2 per day
  • boiled broccoli, de-stemmed
  • boiled turnip
  • brussel sprouts

What Ellie *Was* Eating (pre-GAPS)

  • peaches
  • apricots
  • cherries

Food Fails (pre-GAPS)

We have lost count of 'food fails' prior to starting GAPS.  At last count Ellie had at least 12 failed foods, including Elecare and Neocate.  We did not trial an animal based food prior to GAPS due to fear and instruction from our healthcare providers. If you would like to contact or read about GAPS kids who failed (had an allergic reaction to) meats prior to starting GAPS, click 'here'.
